A Parent's Perspective: What we got out of the 14u Scrimmage

We were very impressed with the 14u Scrimmage my daughter attended last summer at Beyond the Yard. It was organized and professional from start to finish. We didn't know what to expect and were surprised at how much they were able to cover in one seven inning scrimmage.

The day started off with a great warm up. The girls were divided into two teams and each girl was able to rotate in and out of her primary and secondary position throughout the game. Having Coach Cook work with our player is always amazing. But we were impressed that she also enlisted the help of current and past college players and coaches. Bailey Watts and Jessica Rogers were both on hand and worked side-by-side with the players throughout the day.

All the coaches were on the field with the players during the scrimmage asking questions, answering questions, breaking down plays, giving tips, pointers and advice on all aspects of game play. The day was jam packed with so much knowledge and LOTS of playing time. Every player received feedback right away during their time on the field and when they were at bat or running bases. The players were also encouraged (and expected) to ask questions during the scrimmage.

It was also fun! The girls were from different teams and backgrounds but during the day they cheered each other on and had a blast. The coaches were encouraging and kept the energy going by cheering the girls on and creating a friendly and competitive environment.

As parents, it was nice to receive an evaluation of our player's skill set. The coaches also gave written feedback on the evaluation which helped our player understand areas she excels in and where she needs to focus her training. My daughter left the scrimmage feeling more confident and having a better understanding of the game.

If you're looking for an opportunity to have your player receive reliable feedback, to practice real life game situations and a thorough evaluation of her skill set by actual college players and coaches, the scrimmage is all that and much more.
